Apple Launches Self-Service Repairs
Apple has recently announced a “Self-Service Repair” programme, which will allow customers to fix their own devices. Starting early next year, Apple will make available to the U.S market over 200 original parts and tools. Customers feeling comfortable repairing their own electronics will soon be able to replace the batteries, screens and cameras of iPhone12 and 13 for a start, soon to be followed by Mac computers featuring M1 chips.
As Position Mobile has learned from Apple’s Newsroom “To ensure a customer can safely perform a repair, it’s important they first review the Repair Manual. Then a customer will place an order for the Apple genuine parts and tools using the Apple Self Service Repair Online Store. Following the repair, customers who return their used part for recycling will receive credit toward their purchase.”
Apple has clarified that the Self Service Repair program was designed for experienced technicians who have the knowledge to repair electronic devices. For most Apple customers, visiting a certified professional repair shop is recommended. The first phase of the program will focus on the most commonly serviced elements; Additional accessories and repairs will become available later on.
