Spotify Tests a TikTok-like Feed for Discovering New Music

The new feature that Spotify is testing allows users to scroll through a feed of vertical videos and like them or skip them. The new feature of Spotify, called Discover, works in a similar way to TikTok. The new feature appeared in the latest version of Spotify’s beta iOS TestFlight by Chris Messina.

Discover lets users find new music, quickly and easily just by swiping up and down. Users can like the song by tapping on the heart and they can also access standard information about the song by hitting the three-dot menu. The format of the new feature allows artists to upload videos along with their songs, which makes the experience far more enjoyable for the user. More specifically, static images can be replaced by Canvas videos in standard form and mixed media, along with 2D and 3D graphics.

As Position Mobile has learned from Engadget , “Spotify confirmed to TechCrunch that it’s testing the feature, but declined to share further details like how it would curate feeds. At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience, a spokesperson said. Some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We don’t have any further news to share at this time.”

Spotify is not the first platform that introduces new features inspired by TikTok. The huge success and rapid growth of TikTok enticed other platforms to get more creative, therefore not long after the launch of TikTok, Instagram introduced Instagram’s Reels and YouTube presented YouTube Shorts.
