Instagram is Rolling Out New Feed Switching Feature

Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, announced on Wednesday that Instagram is testing out a new feed switching feature. According to his tweet, the platform is rolling out some major changes to the way feed works, giving users more options. Apart from Home, which is the feed currently available that shows all the content from people we are following, two new feed options are being launched, Favorites and Following.

Favorites will only show you content from people who are your favorites, whereas Following will show you content from everyone you follow. Both Favorites and Following sort content chronologically, while Home displays the algorithmically sorted feed we have now. Home feed will feature “more and more recommendations over time,” functioning more as a discovery hub as reported by Mosseri, as opposed to Favorites which will let users easily keep up to date on all updates from friends and family.

As Position Mobile has learned from TechCrunch, “The changes are ‘already out or going out over the next few weeks’ according to Mosseri, and the company plans to roll out a finalized version of the chronological feed options in the first half of 2022.”
