AirDrop is a very useful feature for sharing pictures, movies, documents, and other data across Apple devices, such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs. You may quickly send anything to a friend, or you can use AirDrop to transfer information between your own devices. Apple uses AirDrop to establish a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connection between the two AirDrop devices. These gadgets don’t need to share an internet connection to interact, as Position Mobile has learned from The Verge.

To use AirDrop, you must be in close proximity to the person or device with whom you wish to share something, and both parties must have wi-fi and Bluetooth enabled — you don’t have to be on the same Wi-Fi network, though — as well as the personal hotspot option turned off.

How to limit who can reach you through AirDrop:

You have a few alternatives for limiting how easy you can be reached with the feature, according to Apple.

• Long-press on the Wi-Fi icon in Control Center.
• In the next menu, select AirDrop.
• You can then disable AirDrop completely, limit it to recognized contacts, or make yourself available to everyone nearby. If you select “Contacts Only,” the recipient’s Apple ID email address or phone number must be assigned to their contact information for AirDrop to work.
